What a top day :) couldn't go antwhere fast like Southend or Wells as we
had family round for tea :) and as I can't face our local gusty puddle -
Alton, I went to Levington even though there was a midday low water. The
day started well when I saw loads of Waxwings really close on the link road
between Trimley and Levington !!!! I arrived at Levington Marina at approx
10:30 with the water level already fairly low and the shortboard option is
out of the question as staying upwind would have been difficult with wind
and tide in the same direction so took a chance with 8.5 on the longboard.
I sailed out of the flat water marina entrance and headed toward Felixstowe
dock and the beat over to Shotely Marina and cheched the gps and had made
29 kts - I later learned I did nearly 25 kt mile run - not bad for a really
heavy longboard with a broken fin box !!! The nice thing about the
raceboard is you can put the plate down and get back :) there were some
mega gusts but I managed to hang on. I improved my max on the next run but
then as hard as I tried couldn't get to 30 kts !!! but I was out sailiong
onstop for well over three hours and didn't get cold at all - good old big
board - no falling in :) I packed up nearly an hour after the tide had
turned as it started to chop up even more and I was knackered !!! Then on
the way home the waxwings were there in force and I parked and got really
close with the camera - sadly I ran out of battery :( Then home for a quick
shower and then a top evening with my sister and two of her kids and our
favourite Aunt :) - so a great days sailing in the sunshine :)
